Manchester United have found their new back up goalkeeper after the sudden termination of Martin Dubravka’s loan. The club have agreed a loan deal for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland, bringing him in until the end of the 2022-23 season.

The 29-year old is best known for his time at Stoke City, where he was the no. 1 for five seasons and made 169 appearances in all competitions. In that time he also earned 9 caps for England.

He moved to Crystal Palace in 2020, where he has backed up Vicente Guaita and struggled to establish himself as a Premier League no. 1 once again.

Butland’s current deal with Crystal Palace only keeps him at the club until June, 2023, meaning that if United are impressed with him during the loan spell they could look to make a permanent deal in the summer. However it seems unlikely that Butland is considered as more than a back up option to De Gea, and will likely only play in cup competitions.
