Manchester United have been linked with Aboulaye Doucouré of late, though manager José Mourinho is now said to be chasing his Watford teammate Richarlison. That’s according to a report from Sky Sports, who claim Chelsea and Everton are the other parties interested in signing the 20-year-old midfielder in the summer. The Hornets are said to be holding out for a hefty £40 million for the Brazilian youth international, who arrived from Fluminense last year.
The article follows hot on the heels of a report in the Daily Mirror that suggested Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are also chasing the Watford man. He certainly seems to be one of the Premier League’s most prized assets at present.
However, £40 million would probably be a gamble too far for Mourinho, given the way Richarlison’s form has tailed off over the course of the season. The Brazilian is certainly talented, but his performance level has aligned with Watford’s more generally: all five of his league goals came before Christmas, and he’s struggled for consistency ever since.
He’s certainly one to keep an eye on, but we’d be surprised if he was playing in a United shirt next season.
