According to El Pais, Manchester United officials will meet with Cristiano Ronaldo this week to discuss a return to Old Trafford.

There's some good news and bad news here. First, the good news: El Pais is at the more reliable end of the Spanish press - they don't print complete nonsense. While of course that's no guarantee that what they say is true, you can at least be sure that it's come from a reliable source. So, this is definitely not something we should completely ignore.

Secondly, the bad news. It's not happening this summer. Well, probably not. They say that we're instead offering him 50m euros to join the club on a free transfer by letting his deal run down, which it will in two years' time. At least, that's one plan, the one they consider more likely. They also hint that the deal could take place this summer, although that Ronaldo has reservations about joining while the club is going through such a huge transition.

The reason they give for Ronaldo wanting to leave is frustration over a new deal and being annoyed with perceived disrespect from Florentino Perez. Of course, he should head back to Manchester immediately, in that case. No penny-pinching club directors here, no sir...
