Bayern Munich have signed Thiago from Barcelona, the club have confirmed.
Manchester United were heavily-linked to the player, but now the deal appears dead. Guillem Balague had said this morning that David Moyes had not been as sure of the player's abilities as Pep Guardiola, although we should perhaps take that with a pinch of salt given Balague's overall record.
By all reports, Guardiola wasn't seriously interested in Thiago until recently when he believed a deal could be done. Taking so long and being so indecisive over this has potentially cost us a lot here - there simply isn't anyone of Thiago's ability even available on the market, let alone for that kind of money. The closest might be Ilkay Gundogan, but it's hard to see Dortmund selling in this window.
So, perhaps we now know why the club's claiming to have infinity pounds and after Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo today. With all the vast amounts of money swilling around the club, it really is a wonder how we mysteriously can't attract top-level talent anymore.
