United sell their best midfield prospect

Manchester United have sold Mats Moller Daehli to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Molde. Why? Your guess is as good as ours.

EuroFootball

This really came out of nowhere - Mats Moller Daehli has joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Molde on a permanent transfer.

Daehli is a skilful playmaker, a similar sort of player to another youngster we let go to Molde, Magnus Eikrem, who has just left to join Heerenveen in the Netherlands. He was highly thought-of among our academy as one of our best prospects.

So, why the hell have we decided to sell him? It's not as though he's getting on and won't be good enough - he's 18. Few players get first-team places at that age, especially that sort of player - slight, and physically-lacking. Must have been a pretty terrible two days of football David Moyes saw from him since getting the job, although I suppose it's fair enough that he's devoted so much of what must have been a busy first two days in watching the player.

Or was the opinion at the club that he wasn't good enough? Really? Then why were we hyping him up as the next big thing on the official site a couple of weeks ago? Is letting our best midfielder from the youth team go for nothing a bid to prove Moyes really is cut from the same cloth as Alex Ferguson?

This whole situation makes no sense whatsoever. There's not even any talk of a buy-back clause. If there isn't, this is very disappointing stuff from the club.
