Exciting not-transfer news!
it is being claimed that earlier in the summer, Manchester United made an "astronomical bid" for Bayern Munich's Thomas Müller, but that the player was not interested in a move. And the source? Er, the player himself. Asked by German newspaper Bild whether United had been interested, the self-proclaimed "space investigator" responded as follows:
Of course. I was aware that I could earn more by making that transfer. The amount that foreign clubs were offering me was astronomical. But Bayern are my club, a change was not an issue for me.
Still, worth a shot though. Imagine if he'd said yes?
This follows hot on the heels of yesterday's slightly less trustworthy reports from Spain, where Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético Madrid, stated that United had made an offer of "a lot of money" to Borussia Dortmund for Marco Reus, only to be rebuffed. That, apparently, is why Atléti did not pursue their own interest in the German attacker.
Hmmmm.
Update! This from a Sky Sports News man:
Manchester United spokesman tells us: "It is not true that we made offers for either Muller or Reus at any stage." #mufc #SSNHQ
