Manchester United have moved on another young player, as Marnick Vermijl joins Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old defender was expected to leave on loan, but has instead has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Hillsbrough.

In announcing the signing, Wednesday describe Vermijl as "a highly rated prospect who was tipped for regular first team football by Sir Alex Ferguson". Be that as it may, he never quite broke into the team, and leaves having made just two appearances, both in the League Cup. The former was more successful than the latter: he made his debut in a 2-1 win over Newcastle in 2012, then played his last game for the club earlier this season, in that 4-0 humbling by MK Dons.

And so say all of us.
