The big Manchester United transfer rumour du jour concerns Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale, who could apparently be on his way to Old Trafford. Interestingly, it's not only gossip being spewed by the red-tops, with the Daily Telegraph muscling in on the fun too. Indeed, the source of the rumour is their pretty reliable Manchester correspondent Mark Ogden, who reports:
With United standing to bank almost £100 million in extra earnings next season due to an anticipated return to the Champions League and the start of their world-record £750 million kit deal with Adidas, Van Gaal has been told that money will be made available to pursue Bale at any stage of the transfer window if he becomes available.
Bale joining United certainly doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility. Madrid may well let him go after what has been perceived to be a pretty disappointing season for the Welshman, who would improve United's attack pretty significantly. It certainly looks like a space to be watched.
