Manchester United target Samir Handanović set to extend at Inter ... or is he?

Samir Handanović's agent has revealed that the goalkeeper is close to extending his contract at Inter, but not so close that a transfer would be impossible.

Inter Milan's Samir Handanović is one of the world's best goalkeepers on his day, and plays for a pretty bad Serie A team. It's no surprise he's been linked with United. Just a few days ago, the pretty well-connected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio published an article on his website that stated the 30-year-old had delayed contract renewal talks with Inter Milan to see if the Red Devils would follow up on their interest.

This story is made (slightly) more interesting by the fact that Inter are set to sign another pretty good goalkeeper in the shape of Parma's Antonio Mirante, who is a more than serviceable number one. However, quoted on Football Italia, Handanović's agent Federico Pastorello has suggested his client won't be moving ... sort of.

Unfortunately Google Translate doesn't have an Agentspeak to English function yet, but being the European Football Journos that we are, we here at TBB are fluent, and can bring you the quotes in full:

"Nothing is true with regard to the Red Devils, I've never talked to them. I can rule out then, Samir going to Old Trafford, though of course the transfer market is unpredictable."

Translation: "Samir won't be going to Old Trafford, unless he does."

"Obviously interest from other clubs gives us pleasure, but Samir wants to win with Inter. Negotiations continue, and the final ok is close. Maybe a 90 per cent chance is a little high, but the chances are very high."

Translation: "Samir is currently in negotiations, but we'd still better leave ourselves a little wriggle room in case United really are interested. YOU HEARING THIS, WOODWARD?"

So, looks like we can cross him off the list then

... or can we?
