Manchester United could be interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, or so the Guardian yesterday suggested in their rumour column. According to its author, Paul Doyle:

No matter who wins the power struggle at Old Trafford – will it be the Judean People’s Front or the People’s Front of Judea? – the word is the club will somehow find enough cohesion to launch a bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, once a highly-rated prospect at Arsenal.

There's little to suggest that there's actually anything to this rumour, but it's nevertheless an interesting one to ponder. The England international's made only nine Premier League starts so far this season, with his transition from winger to central midfielder under Arsène Wenger having made him a jack of all trades but a master of none.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's still only 22, and it's hard to believe that there's not a very capable footballer lurking in there somewhere. At a knockdown price, he could well be worth a punt. What do you reckon?
