Adnan Januzaj, who was the next big thing once upon a time, has joined Sunderland on loan for 2016-17. The Belgian attacker will spend the campaign under the guidance of David Moyes, who gave Januzaj his senior debut in the 2013 Community Shield.
Still only 21, Januzaj's career has rather stalled since Moyes left Old Trafford. He failed to break into Louis van Gaal's first-team plans, and failed to impress while on loan at Borussia Dortmund to such an extent that he was sent home early. Jose Mourinho doesn't appear to have been impressed with his work heading into this season: Januzaj was deprived of the No. 11 shirt and sent to train with the reserves, and it was suggested that he might seek to leave United permanently.
That he has just gone on loan suggests that there is still a chance for him at Old Trafford. As such, a reunion with Moyes -- who rates him very highly and seemed to be able to get performances out of him -- makes sense for all involved. After all, he seems to quite like playing at the Stadium of Light.
